The trail opened on 5 September 2026, following a special preview event on 4 September, which saw almost 100 guests exploring the garden after hours while enjoying refreshments. This exciting new feature will be available to the public until 1 November 2026.

About Samuel Booth
Samuel Booth is not just a talented photographer; he is also a passionate gardener and a volunteer at both York Gate and Harewood House. His journey into photography took on a special significance after he experienced a brain injury. Through his lens, Booth has found a way to share his story and express the positivity he has discovered along the way. His work aims to convey the comfort and joy that gardens can bring, making this exhibition not just an art display, but a personal journey as well.
Visitors' Experience
The art trail is open during the garden's standard operating hours from 10 am to 4 pm. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the garden while enjoying the photographic displays. In addition to viewing the art, guests have the opportunity to purchase prints of Booth's photographs, allowing them to take a piece of York Gate home. The garden’s gift shop and plant sales also offer unique items, making it a perfect outing for families and garden enthusiasts alike.
Supporting Horticulture
York Gate Garden is managed by Perennial, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals in the horticulture industry and their families. The garden, which has been in the care of Perennial since it was gifted by the Spencer Family in 1994, plays a crucial role in generating income for the charity. This funding helps Perennial continue its vital work, providing essential services and support to those who work in or are retired from horticulture.
