St Gemma’s Hospice is set to make a big change at the Merrion Centre this September, moving its charity shop to a new and much larger location. This exciting development comes after the success of its original shop, which opened in October 2018 and has become a popular destination for shoppers in Leeds.

New Store Details

The new store will be an impressive 3,811 square feet and will be located right at the main entrance of the Merrion Centre, making it easy for visitors to find. With a bright and colourful design, the store aims to create a contemporary shopping experience for its customers.

Shoppers can look forward to a wide variety of items, including:

  • High-quality pre-loved fashion

  • Homeware

  • Children’s toys

  • And much more!

This larger store will allow customers to discover unique finds while supporting the important work of St Gemma’s Hospice, which provides vital care and support to people in Leeds.

Supporting a Local Cause

St Gemma’s Hospice operates 27 charity shops across Leeds and the surrounding area, but the Merrion Centre location is particularly special as it is the only charity shop in Leeds city centre. This central position makes it a go-to spot for many, especially students who appreciate sustainable fashion choices and are always on the lookout for great deals.

Charles Newman, the Asset Management Director at Town Centre Securities PLC, which owns the Merrion Centre, shared his enthusiasm for the expansion:

“St Gemma’s has become a much-loved part of the Merrion Centre since opening here in 2018, so we are delighted to support the charity with the next stage of its growth.”

What’s Next?

The new St Gemma’s Hospice store is expected to open during the third week of September, perfectly timed for the influx of new and returning university students arriving in Leeds. This is an exciting time for the city, as many students will be looking to explore their new surroundings and shop sustainably.

Jane Kent, Head of Retail at St Gemma’s Hospice, expressed her excitement about the new store:

“We’re incredibly excited to be expanding our presence at the Merrion Centre and introducing customers to our new-look store. The larger space will allow us to offer an even greater range in a bright, colourful, and contemporary environment.”
