Welcome to Yorkshire

|The Merrion Centre in Leeds is set to host the much-anticipated return of the Leeds School Uniform Exchange pop-up shop this summer, and it’s bigger and better than ever! This popular initiative, which provides free pre-loved school uniforms to families, aims to support even more children as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
What Is The Leeds School Uniform Exchange?
The Leeds School Uniform Exchange is a charitable initiative run by Wear and Share Leeds, designed to promote sustainability and community support. It offers families the chance to pick up essential school items without any cost or referral needed. The aim is to encourage families to reuse and recycle school uniforms rather than buying new ones, which can be quite expensive.
With the average cost of a full school uniform and PE kit reaching £442 for secondary school students and £343 for primary school pupils, this exchange plays a crucial role in helping families save money during a time when many are facing financial pressures.
Expanded Offerings in 2026
This year's pop-up shop will feature a larger retail space, which means there will be more stock available to give away. The shop will also have an extended schedule of opening dates, making it easier for families to access these valuable resources. The pop-up shop will run from July 22 to August 29, 2026, with opening hours from 10 am to 3 pm on selected days.
Last year, the Merrion Centre hosted 10 pop-up events, welcoming 319 families and distributing an impressive 2,570 items of free school uniforms. This year, the plan is to hold at least 15 events, with the possibility of adding more dates to help even more families prepare for the new school term.
What Can Families Expect?
Families can simply walk in, browse, and take what they need. The items available typically include:
Shirts and polos
Trousers and skirts
Blazers and jumpers
P.E. kits
Shoes and accessories
All items are sorted by size and school, making it easy for families to find exactly what they need. Additionally, uniform donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the pop-up during opening hours, allowing the community to contribute to this important initiative.
Community Impact
Debbie Binnersley, co-manager of the Leeds School Uniform Exchange, remarked on the significant impact of the initiative:
“The Leeds School Uniform Exchange has already made a real difference for thousands of families, saving them hundreds of thousands of pounds. Expanding the Merrion Centre pop-up means we can go even further this summer.”
Charlotte-Daisy Leeming, head of ESG at Town Centre Securities PLC (TCS), the owners of the Merrion Centre, expressed excitement about the initiative's return:
“We’re delighted to welcome back the Leeds School Uniform Exchange to the Merrion Centre for 2026, bigger and better than before. By increasing the size of the unit, extending the number of dates and growing the volume of stock available, we’re able to support even more families while continuing to champion sustainability, which is a key priority for us and our communities.”
Key Dates for the Pop-Up Shop
The Leeds School Uniform Exchange will be open on the following dates:
Week 1: July 22 (Wednesday), July 23 (Thursday), July 25 (Saturday)
Week 2: July 27 (Monday), August 1 (Saturday)

With the support of local businesses and residents, the initiative promises to make a significant difference for many families in Leeds.
