Absolutely loved this place! Cozy atmosphere with a botanical twist — both the open-air terrace and stylish indoor space are perfect. Great for big groups or intimate catch-ups. We enjoyed a relaxing tea break here: one strong black tea and one with milk, just the way we like it. Peaceful vibes, friendly staff, and a beautiful interior make it one of the best spots in Barnsley. Can’t wait to come back!

I am writing to formally complain about the extremely disappointing service my friends, my partner, and I received today at The Botanist in Barnsley We attended for what was meant to be a Christmas get-together. Upon arrival, my friend asked a member of staff if we could have a table. We were informed that table service was unavailable, however we could sit in the bar area and order food directly from the bar. We were happy to do this and sat at the same table. We placed our food order first, and my friends ordered straight after — two separate orders, but for the same table. Despite this, my friends meals arrived first, while our food did not arrive until 25 minutes later. At no point were we informed that food would be served so far apart, which is unacceptable when dining together. Because of this, my friends felt uncomfortable eating and waited until the rest of the food arrived. As a result, his meal was cold by the time he ate it. This situation was embarrassing and completely ruined what was meant to be a pleasant Christmas meal. We asked to speak to the manager, as this level of service was not okay. We were told the manager would come to our table within two minutes, however they never did. We later discovered the manager had gone on their lunch break instead. We returned to the bar and were again told the manager would come over—this also did not happen. After waiting a further 15 minutes, I went back to the bar and spoke to a staff member with dark hair, who was rude and dismissive. She stated that I had already spoken to the manager, which was not true. When I explained this, she appeared hesitant to help. Eventually, the manager did come over, but showed no concern. I explained that it had not been made clear that food would arrive at different times and also raised the issue of the staff member’s rude behaviour. I was met with complete indifference and told there was “nothing she could do.” We did not receive a single apology from any member of staff. The entire experience demonstrated zero customer service skills and left us feeling upset, embarrassed, and frustrated. For a venue with your reputation, this was shocking. I would appreciate this complaint being taken seriously and would like a response explaining how this situation will be addressed

Really nice experience, great value for money. Staff were so nice. Meats were really tasty. Good selection for the buffet/sides. Nice wine menu. Cute flower wall beside the bar when you walk in

Visited for a friend's Birthday, not been in before and have to say that the staff were friendly and great giving us all time to select our meals. The inner decor and vibe is great throughout the building and washrooms clean and tidy. The meals we had were good. Just marked down slightly due to portion size could of done with a little more meat on the kebabs. Had live music playing that wasn't overly noisy to the point we could carry on with our conversation easily and the place was busy so always a good sign.

Lovely, lovely food. Wife had sea bass, I had a hanging kebab. Prices are reasonable for this day and age (£50 inc a pint of beer and a soft drink). Service was good, took a while to initially take our order but waitress was attentive throughout. Will definitely be back!
