The pottery was first set up in 1978 by designers Martin and Judy Bibby, who created many of the stunning designs which are still popular today. Originally based in a converted farm in Swineside, in the Yorkshire Dales, Swineside Ceramics quickly developed a reputation for its innovative creations.
By 1986 the teapots were becoming so popular in the UK and abroad the Bibby’s decided to change the company name to Swineside Teapottery. Due to the increased demand they soon outgrew the Swineside premises and moved to a new purpose-built pottery at Leyburn Business Park, North Yorkshire, where the pottery still remains today.
Following the Bibby’s retirement in 2004, The Teapottery continued to produce inspiring creations with the help of an experienced designer who was familiar with The Teapottery’s style. More unique designs were added to the collection and the business continued to grow.
Trading now as Ceramic Inspirations, the pottery is adapting to the ever changing needs of our customers. Working with sister company Cardew Design, exciting new creations are being added to the collection offering something fresh for enthusiasts across the UK.

Thank you so much for a superb afternoon of pottery painting! we went as a team of 10 colleagues for a day out and had the best time! who knew we were all so creative! You made the whole process of booking and arranging it so easy. A great place, lovely atmosphere and refreshments too! Such a great range of items to choose from and the advice on getting started was so helpful. We would highly recommend Salt Pots Ceramic Studio.
Visted today on a team away day treat. From start to finish the service and activities booked was amazing. Great fun and afternoon tea was enjoyed by all. Thank you so much for a great day. 🙏🏻😊
We came to this establishment on the 1st of October 2025 as a group of visually impaired people from the Centre for the sensory impaired in Morley Street Bradford. I must say what a fabulous time we had creating some wonderful gnomes the staff here was so helpful and supportive and even brought everything downstairs so that we didn’t have to go upstairs which could’ve caused Access issues. I really loved the fact that they taught you everything in a straightforward simple manner can’t wait to go back and paint the gnomes once they have been dried out and hardened up in the kilns. I definitely say it is very accessible for everyone and also fabulous for children. Please give this business your custom.
Poor choice of paints and brushes. Very limited with supplies and not well equipped as other places. Phone lines are always down and can not get through to staff. Collection policies are not clear enough as staff mention to collect in 7 days only and receipts show within 1 month. Would not recommend visiting.
Amazing place, it was very fun! Helen was very kind and hospitable - would definitely come back again !
