Excellent riverside walk and enjoy the wild nature of lush green. This area is even very good for bluebells. Have sewn a lot of dog walkers. Plenty of space for kids activities but keep an eye on water safety especially when the river flow is high. Enjoyed every step of it there no any sound but water flow and birds at least away from traffic.
Horseshoe Field is one of Knaresborough’s most inviting natural spaces, offering a blend of scenic beauty, open landscape, and peaceful atmosphere that appeals to a wide range of visitors. Situated close to the river and surrounded by picturesque views, the field provides an ideal setting for walking, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors at an unhurried pace. Its distinctive horseshoe-shaped layout gives the area a sense of character and openness, making it easy for visitors to spread out, explore, or simply take in the surroundings without feeling crowded. The field is especially well known among dog walkers, runners, and families looking for a safe, spacious environment. The generous grassy areas make it perfect for informal recreation, from ball games to simple lounging in the sun. Despite being a large, open space, Horseshoe Field maintains a calm and welcoming ambiance, helped by the natural sounds of wildlife and the gentle movements of the river nearby. It is also a popular starting point for longer riverside walks, giving people the option to extend their visit into a full afternoon outdoors. Cleanliness and upkeep are consistently strong, reflecting both the efforts of local caretakers and the respect shown by regular visitors. Throughout the year, the field retains its charm, whether in the bright greenery of spring and summer or the more muted, atmospheric tones of autumn and winter. Horseshoe Field is a place where simple pleasures—fresh air, open space, and natural beauty—come together effortlessly. For residents and tourists alike, it represents one of Knaresborough’s most enjoyable and dependable outdoor settings.
Pretty field with a well worn path all the way around so you know where you’re walking. Lovely for dogs to run and has some small banking areas so you can get down to the river. My dog loves a paddle!
A local spot for me. A wide open space in the bend of the River Nidd, accessed over a bridge from Conyngham Hall car park or cross High Bridge, opposite entrance to Mother Shiptons through Foolish Wood on the other side of the river at the start of the Beryl Burton Cycle way at Bilton Field. A great place to give the dog a run and a paddle in the river and for a family picnic. Look out for Kingfishers.
Lovely little place for children to play and have a picnic. You only have to pay parking, which is reasonably priced as well.
