Small museum that seems to be a a well loved community hub of Darfield. Hosting many types of events and meetings. We had a lovely guided, well informed tour of the building and enjoyed a delicious lunch in the cafe. It would have been nice to see more photos and memories of Maurice & Fred. The museum is cash only but they accept bank transfer. We easily got there by bus from Barnsley bus station and a short walk

An amazing little museum of which I have the pleasure of volunteering at, entrance is by donation. There is a Cafe Gallery where artists display work and a shop where local crafts people sell their goods. Open Saturday 10am-2pm and Wednesday 1pm-4pm

This is a great little museum, free to enter, previously owned by Maurice Dobson who left it to the village on his death. It is staffed by friendly volunteers and has history relating to Maurice and his partner Fred, and the surrounding Darfield area. You can have a guided tour, or look round independently. It also has a lovely tea room serving drinks and home made cakes, a patio to sit and enjoy the sun, and a shop selling items from local crafters such as jewellery and pictures. There are also often events on, check on the website or FB. Well worth a visit.

The Maurice Dobson Museum is a small but genuinely fascinating little gem of a museum, full of local history and an important look at Barnsley’s LGBT history. A super knowledgeable and friendly volunteer guided a small group of us through the museum’s three rooms, sharing local stories and clear enthusiasm for Maurice and the community around the museum. It’s lovely to see a place like this so well cared for by people who truly value its history, as well as its current place within the community.

A surprise to find this excellent little museum. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Full of interesting local history all explained by Ken Brookes, a sprightly 82 local, who walked and talked us round the museum. Finally ended up in a nice little tearoom which is part of the museum all run by volunteers. Will definitely be going again. Thank you Ken.
