Welcome to Yorkshire
News • October 30th, 2024
|Imagine you’re a giant polar bear, 8ft tall and 450kg. Nothing should scare you, right? Well, it turns out that’s not always the case at Yorkshire Wildlife Park where Halloween brought some shocks to the park’s favourite bears.

Yuma’s spider surprise
Meet Yuma, a big powerful polar bear. Nothing should scare him, but when he met a Halloween surprise – a creepy spider toy – he was shaken! Yuma was startled by the fake spider and leapt back before throwing it into the lake. Bex Brown, Carnivore Team Leader, laughed
“Yuma was definitely spooked by the red spider and threw it into the lake. But after a while he got over it and went back for it!”
Since then Yuma has been seen carrying the spider toy around, dunking it in the lake and even play fighting with it. His brother Indy seems just as entertained, wrestling with the Halloween toys, although he’s more interested in the food!
Halloween fun beyond the bear enclosure
Halloween has spread beyond the polar bears at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Across the park the Golden Lion Tamarins and Silvery Marmosets have been climbing into the pumpkin baskets high in the treetops and Alice the Red Panda has been investigating a pumpkin in her habitat.
And there’s plenty for visitors too. Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s Halloween Scarefest runs for three days of spooky activities, live performances, fairground rides and themed music in the park’s new “Let’s Go – Events Festival Village” from October 31st to November 2nd.
