The Blue Lion Inn, Pub and Restaurant with Accommodation

I love this place ! We’re a walking group which has eaten lunch here in previous years! This October, 15 of us decided to stay and we were certainly not disappointed ! Comfortable rooms, cleaned and tidied for us each day. Wonderful breakfasts and great dinners with us all seated around one long table. Sorry to have had to day good-bye today and go home. Lovely staff with a special shout out for Lindsay.

We discovered this wonderful country inn five years ago when we were staying in Richmond and wanted somewhere nice for Sunday lunch. Since then we have taken every opportunity to return. The food is superb and the rooms well appointed, comfortable and spotless. The staff make you feel really welcome. The cosy bar is just as pubs used to be. I am always sad when our stay is over.

really bizarre experience! my family visited years ago and came to love it so we popped in for friday lunch to see it again after so long. the place was deserted (on a friday lunchtime?!) and completely silent. we’d booked especially, and expected the light lunch menu, but when seated we were given the a la carte menu by a waiter. when we questioned if we could just have lunch, he told us this was all we could have. we pushed this more, but he dismissed us and said that they had a limited menu and that this was all we could have (no reason given, and we were not informed of this when booking) that maybe we should just have a starter or pudding. we over heard them speaking to others that they were low in stock so could not serve the other menu items. we didn’t want to drop £60+ a head on lunch so we all just ended up eating soup. the service was strange, two older gentleman who clearly have traditional experience but were very stiff and borderline unwelcoming - this gave a very formal air to the place, really uncomfortable! not sure what’s happened here, but it’s really a shame! what we ate was excellent quality food, albeit expensive.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at the Blue Lion. The food was top-notch, especially the desserts - they were to die for! Breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely breakfast room. The staff were all so warm and friendly and our dog was very welcome throughout the Inn. Would definitely return on a future trip to the Dales, and highly recommend to any traveler.

Absolutely outrageous little place this. So cosy and romantic with rickety candle lit corners. Nestle in next to the fire with a bottle of red and great company, gorge. Sensational food and service too, can’t fault any of it. Will definitely be back xx
