This place is the most welcoming pub we have ever been to. After getting our car stuck in the snow and having to walk several miles to the pub, we received an extremely warm welcome. The owners invited us to sit by the fire, gave us snacks and made us delicious food even though the kitchen had technically closed. There is also a great beer garden for the summer months. Would highly recommend!

We spent 1 night here while visiting the north Yorkshire railway. Lovely friendly staff. Cosy rooms, good shower with lovely big towels. We had our dinner there we chose Whitby fish and chips delicious. Other diners had the pie which looked good as well. Would definitely return.

Arrived here by mistake on a Sunday due to the weather. Myself and my friend and my dog were accommodated in the dining room which although is shabby I thought it was delightful. We ordered the Sunday lunch. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Sunday lunch like it out of the home. It had five different vegetables cooked in a different style not straight up. I had a piece of pan fried chicken and gravy and home-made Yorkshire puddings it is one of the best Sunday dinners I’ve ever been provided with in a pub and it was priced fairly. Please don’t change a thing. The crew the proprietor her staff were welcoming and easy

On the way to the hotel we had to abandon our car and walk 2 and half hours in snow to get to the pub/hotel. It was like arriving at heaving. The owners are the most welcoming kind hearted people you will ever meet. Felt so welcomed, we were served good even though kitchen was closed. We spent hours by the fire taking with the owners and locals all night. Best pub experience I have ever had ( and I have been to many pubs 🍺) will definitely come back.

We stayed here on 8th October while walking the Coast to Coast. The hotel is beautifully situated by the River Esk, the staff are helpful and friendly and the food is excellent. The salad/ veg for dinner & fruit selection at breakfast for example was much better than some of the other places we stayed. It's lovely to stay in a hotel that is not part of a chain and the resourceful new owner, Parminder, runs it herself paying attention to every detail. We would highly recommend. The attached photo shows the stepping stones across the river next to the hotel on the morning we left.
