What makes this fair special?
First of all, it’s not just any antiques fair—it’s one of Yorkshire’s biggest and best, and it’s been going strong for over 30 years. Think of it as a treasure hunt, but indoors (ideal when February weather isn’t exactly inviting). The stalls will be packed with artworks, ceramics, furniture, glassworks, jewellery, and more, all under one roof.
Prices? Well, they vary—so whether you’re after a beautiful Georgian drinking glass for under £50 or a statement piece of art worth thousands, there’s something for every budget.
Spotlight on Yorkshire artists
This year, two standout pieces by renowned Yorkshire artists are already creating a buzz:
1. Brian Shields (aka BRAAQ) – Hiding Behind the Steps!
Imagine capturing the hustle and bustle of a northern town in one painting. That’s exactly what Brian Shields, known by his signature name “BRAAQ,” does in his work. His oil painting, Hiding Behind the Steps!, will be available at the fair for £17,500 from Rowles Gallery.
A little backstory about BRAAQ: he was born in Liverpool but made Harrogate his home. He originally trained as a chef, but his artistic talent came to light when he painted a mural in a hotel, signing it as “BRAAQ” to stay anonymous. By the late ’70s, he was one of England’s most successful artists, even earning praise from The Times. Shields sadly passed away in 1997 at just 46, but his paintings remain iconic.
2. Herbert Royle – Haymaking, Nessfield
If you’re more into peaceful countryside scenes, Herbert Royle’s work might steal your heart. His painting, Haymaking, Nessfield, beautifully captures a sunny Yorkshire afternoon during harvest time. It’s all about that golden light and rural charm. Royle was known for heading out with his easel and painting directly from the landscape, often with a hot potato in his pocket to keep warm—yes, really!
This piece is priced at £5,500 and will be on display at Walker Galleries, which specialise in Yorkshire art.
What else can you expect?
Aside from these headline-grabbing works, there’s a huge variety of antique and vintage treasures to discover. Here’s a quick list of what’s on offer:
