A big, beautiful, peaceful church just a short walk from Harrogate town centre. Seems to have a lively programme of music and cultural events, but sadly didn’t get to enjoy these on our short visit.

The Director of Music and Organist are very friendly and had a nice chat with them afterwards. The service in Anglo Catholic style was well done also though the sermon was a vague musing on the fact God does not always answer prayer in the way we expect delivered in a languid drawl by the Rector. He sounded like he’d rather be somewhere else: nothing profound there! Also nobody spoke to me afterwards at coffee in the side chapel as a visitor so after standing around like a spare part for a while I left. Harrogate strikes me as the Reigate of the North. Perhaps I did not look prosperous enough. Anyway a generous 3 stars as my musical brothers were really top blokes and gave me a good lowdown on the (sadly mothballed) Harrison and Harrison Pipe Organ and the new digital.
