Welcome to Yorkshire

|Yorkshire have signed Jack White, a Northamptonshire pace bowler, ahead of their return to Division One of the Championship. White, who entered the professional game late, has been on the up since his Northants debut in 2020. Now 32, the bowler will join Headingley on a two year deal to strengthen Yorkshire’s seam options.
He has 149 wickets across all formats, 114 of them in first class cricket. Big news for Yorkshire fans hoping for a good season. He took 50 wickets in the Championship in 2023 but Northants were relegated to Division Two. He should be a useful addition to the squad as they face the top teams again.

New start at Headingley
Jack White isn’t just changing teams, he’s moving forward with a new chapter in his cricket career. From Kendal, White said:
“I’m chuffed to bits and can’t wait to start this new chapter with Yorkshire.”
He described Headingley as “a special place to play” and wants to continue to develop his game with Yorkshire’s coaches and leaders.
White is a dedicated player and a hard worker. He entered the professional game late so his rise is all the more impressive. He made just four appearances in Division Two this season due to limited game time and took 9 wickets. He’s ready to go full tilt for Yorkshire.
Replacing Matthew Fisher
Yorkshire’s bowling options were short after Matthew Fisher left for Surrey so White fills that gap and brings freshness and depth to the attack. Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s general manager, said:
“He’s a great addition to the team, another string to our bow.”
Hamilton added:
“He’s the kind of player and person who will add to our dressing room. He’s the kind of player who will inspire and motivate our younger bowlers.”
Northamptonshire and White’s division one future
Of course Northamptonshire were gutted to lose him. They had wanted to keep him but he’d exercised a clause in his contract to move to a Division One team. In a statement Northamptonshire said they’d done everything they could to keep him but wished him well for the future. White said thanks for his time at Northamptonshire and how it had helped him.
For Yorkshire this is not just about getting another player in the team; it’s about adding depth to the squad as they face Division One cricket again. Yorkshire’s promotion was built on five wins in their last seven games and they’ll want to carry that into 2024 with White on board.
Yorkshire fans will be looking forward to seeing him in action, hopefully breaking his career best bowling figures against some of the best batsmen in the league. The excitement around White’s move is well deserved – for his skills on the pitch and his commitment to each game.
