An excellent wine shop offering a wide range of beautiful, good value wines. I regularly shop here and the owner is always helpful and friendly and happy to recommend new and different wines for me to try. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful wine shop in Helmsley, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for quality wines.

Excellent little wine shop with friendly knowledgeable advice from the owner. Three nice bottles picked up this Saturday which we're looking forward to. I've checked the online reviews for those wines and they're excellent, confirming that the owner does indeed know his stuff! I think you can reasonably trust the good reviews on here and not the wacky ones - great shop, friendly and informed owner. Cheers!

We tasked Helmsley Wines with supplying wine for our wedding. Mal found red, white and sparkling options within our budget, went out of his way to ship us samples, and even provided delivery to the event. We could not have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend working with Helmsley Wines for events, or just to pick up a nice bottle or two.

Just had the most unpleasant experience of visiting a wine shop and encountered the most hostile shop owner. Fully intended to make a purchase but was accused of being rude and asking too many questions about the wines on sale. Generally most wine sellers are more than interested in helping customers but not this establishment. Wine shelves were randomly assorted with no real pattern of display order. I have travelled the world tasting and buying wine never been insulted as I was today. Advised the shop was closed despite the door being open and display sign at the door. AVOID! Well, I am a retired as a dentist and a non shop lifter. I was certainly not greeted with a warm welcome. The wines are not arranged in any fathomable fashion. The shop had an open door. There was an “Open” sign which, foolishly, I took to be open. I should have read the recent very -ve reviews. Look at yourself and try to encourage customers. Not relish and gloat at your recent massive order! In the many countries around the world in which I have been lucky enough to visit tasting wines, touring vineyards and talking to wine makers and associated affiliates I have never been knowingly patronising and never encountered such an openly antagonist person such as that unfortunate incident as last week at Helmsley Wine shop. I went in the buy a nice bottle to celebrate a70th birthday and 45th anniversary. I came out truly shocked at being treated with such contempt. Incidentally, you have got me confused with my lawyer friend that I went into to the shop with. I had left by the time that you seemingly had a heated discussion with. But your ignorance and lack of mental awareness does not surprise me. No need to apologise to me in getting your clients mixed up.

We found this little gem of a shop, firstly I was unsure if this was a nice concept of selling bottles while people could enjoy a glass of wine, which it really has the potential to be. Being a senior buyer of wine for one of the big supermarkets, and having travelled around the globe and extensively visited vine yards probably in the hundreds, I decided to ask if he stocked anything from Yorkshire, as Yorkshire is certainly on the up and I believe to currently have 15 or so commercial vineyards at my last count with just under 10 wineries probably producing in excess of 100,000 bottles a year minimum. We thought somewhere that's so independent and selects wine for local business's he would have something as we always like a case of wine where we visit. You did explain there was no call for this wine from your clients, whilst I understand this, to then turn around and treat me like a second class citizen and to look down your noise at me, and as you put it, your not a tourist shop I did feel very disappointed with. I apologize that I came into an independent shop selling wine in a county that prides itself on producing the best local produce, expecting to see some local wines. For myself and people that I work with in the wine industry, we have a deep passion for wine, telling people about different options, different story's about bottles we have, just maybe you were having an off day the day we walked in. I do hope you find your passion again and maybe can find a small space to keep the best of what Yorkshire wine producers have to offer.
