An amazing place. It was a private cemetery that went bankrupt. Taken over by the city council in 1970. It was a frequent haunt of Philip Larkin and features in some of his poems. There is a figure of eight foot that is excellent for dog walkers and those looking for a peaceful walk. There is a bench installed by the Philip Larkin society. A Friends Graveyard within the General Cemetery and a number of individual monuments. There is a memorial to the 'Great Visitation of Cholera' in 1849 in Hull when 1 in 43 people passed away. It is separate to the western cemetery which is still in use for burials.

I stumbled upon it by chance, it's an amazing place, there are trees surrounding the headstones, there are people buried there since 1900 and they died at the age of 80, it's quite a trip back in time, there are tombs everywhere, we have the impression of being in a deserted place in the middle of the city
