Came here purely for Caribbean food. Atmosphere and service was very good We ordered oxtail, and the jerk chicken/rib mains Whilst both dishes meat was cooked to exception... Moist/ tender. There flavours are not Caribbean/ jerk. Oxtail was like a black gravy no spices. Jerk sauce was like a very sweet bbq which was hugely disappointing, as the chicken was the most most chicken I've ever eaten and the ribs were also cooked excellent. Feedback was given when staff asked.

I recently visited Roots Rum and Shack on a Thursday evening with a few of my old coursemates, and it was such a vibe from start to finish! First of all, Thursday is definitely the day to go they offer half-price food, which was the perfect excuse for us to indulge a little more. We ordered a mix of dishes to share and everything exceeded our expectations. The platter was a great starter to get a little bit of everything, but the real stars for me were the rice & peas with sauce, the soft, flavourful oxtails, and the absolute showstopper: the grilled chicken wings with their special Havana sauce seriously some of the best wings I’ve had in a long time. We also had a couple of cocktails and let me tell you ,they were banging! Super tasty, well-balanced, and definitely added to the whole experience. The atmosphere was lit — good energy, friendly staff, and great background music that set the perfect tone for a chilled evening with friends. We were able to catch up, eat amazing food, and just enjoy the whole vibe. If you’re looking for somewhere in town with proper Caribbean flavour, good drinks, and a fun atmosphere definitely check out Roots Rum and Shack, especially on a Thursday!

Our visit to Roots was a delightful experience. The food options on the menu were excellent. My partner and I ordered the jerk salmon and the jerk trinidadian chicken respectively. The jerk salmon usually comes with one of two sauces but they gave us both which was a huge plus! The jerk trinidadian chicken was amazing, it comes with their jerk bbq sauce and, considering I'm not usually one for bbq sauce, it was absolutely amazing, a perfect balance of tang and spice. The jerk salmon was very good as well, a grilled flavour combined with both of the sauces having two very strong differing flavours; with one being strong, spicy and aromatic and the other being rich and creamy. Both of our mains came with house fries which were very good considering fries are quite basic - seasoned very well and nice and crispy. Our waiter/bartender was a cool guy, took care of us all night and made sure we were enjoying the food and that our drinks weren't getting too empty. We went on a Monday, which offers a 2-4-1 on certain cocktails. To put it lightly my partner and I took full advantage of this lol. We ordered a decent variety of drinks and all of them were amazing. Go here, and have a good time. 10/10
