Sheffield Museums Prepare for Exciting Summer Exhibitions Starting June 2026

Sheffield is gearing up for an exciting summer with a range of exhibitions and events taking place across its renowned museums. From art to interactive experiences for young children, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The Sheffield Museums Trust, which operates six major museums in the city, is dedicated to showcasing the rich heritage and creative talent of Sheffield. Established in 2021, this independent charity seeks to tell the remarkable stories of the city and its people through various collections and cultural experiences.

New Exhibitions in June 2026

June will see the launch of several new exhibitions, including the much-anticipated Football Art Prize and the interactive Bobeam Tree. These exhibitions will not only entertain but also inspire visitors of all ages.

  • The Football Art Prize
    - Dates: 11 June – 13 September 2026
    - Location: Millennium Gallery
    - Entry: Free (donations of £5 encouraged)
    This exhibition celebrates the passion and excitement of football, coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Visitors can explore the works of over 60 artists from the UK and beyond, showcasing the highs and lows of the beautiful game through various mediums including painting, photography, and video.

  • The Bobeam Tree
    - Dates: 20 June – 31 August 2026
    - Location: Millennium Gallery
    - Entry: Free (donations of £5 encouraged)
    This enchanting exhibition is designed for children aged 0-5 and their families. The Bobeam Tree is a magical tree that grows through children's curiosity and imagination. Visitors can engage in storytelling and activities inspired by Sheffield's museum collections, promoting social and emotional development in young children.

Artistic Highlights

In addition to the new exhibitions, the Graves Gallery will feature two important displays this June:

  • When the Day is Done: New Paintings by Ryan Mosley
    - Until 4 July 2026
    Ryan Mosley, a talented artist from Sheffield, presents his first solo exhibition, showcasing 20 new works. His paintings blend reality and fiction, inviting viewers into a world where the everyday meets the extraordinary.

  • Revolution, Revelation, Reinforcement: Queer Legacies in Sheffield’s Art Collection
    - Until February 2027
    This exhibition explores the rich history of LGBTQ+ art in Sheffield, featuring both historic and contemporary pieces. It aims to reveal the stories behind Queer expression and how these messages have evolved over time.

Long-Standing Exhibitions

  • Gathering Landscapes: 150 Years of Collecting at Weston Park Museum
    - Until 1 November 2026
    This exhibition reflects on the diverse ways people have collected and engaged with the natural world over the past 150 years. Featuring over 400 objects, it examines the connections between humans, nature, and art.
