Get ready to clear some space on the shelf, because something big is coming to Leeds. The LEGO Group has officially announced the launch date for its brand new, upsized store at Trinity Leeds, and it’s opening its doors on Thursday, 23rd April. This isn’t just a simple relocation; it’s a major upgrade for brick fans of all ages, promising a much more immersive experience. Forget just popping in to buy a set; this new LEGO store is designed to be a destination where creativity and play take centre stage, a place to build, explore, and get properly hands-on with the iconic bricks.

What’s new at the leeds store?

So, what exactly does a bigger and better LEGO store look like? For starters, it’s a massive 456 square metres. That’s plenty of room for more sets, more bricks, and more fun. One of the most exciting additions is the famous LEGO Pick a Brick Wall. Anyone who’s ever been halfway through a masterpiece only to realise they’re missing a few very specific pieces will understand how brilliant this is. It’s a huge wall of clear containers, each filled with a different type of brick in every colour imaginable. It’s the perfect place to find that one elusive part to finish a project, or just to stock up on your favourite colours to let your creativity run wild. No more having to buy a whole new set just for a couple of bits and bobs.

And it doesn't stop there. The store will also feature a station where shoppers can design and build their very own LEGO Minifigures. This is where things get really fun. Visitors can mix and match from a huge selection of heads, hair, torsos, and legs to create completely unique characters. Fancy giving a pirate a space helmet or a wizard a skateboard? Absolutely. The only limit is imagination. The new store will also host free build challenges and in-store events, all designed to encourage hands-on play and to inspire the next generation of creators, who are often called the builders of tomorrow. On launch day, there will even be specially-designed, Yorkshire-inspired LEGO models to see and pose with, adding a lovely local touch to the new space.

More than just a shop

The whole point of this new store is to make it an experience. It's about fostering a community of builders and providing a space that encourages people to play. A key part of this will be the team of ‘Brick Specialists’ on hand. These aren’t just regular shop assistants; they are experts in all things LEGO. They can help find the perfect set, offer building tips, or just chat about the latest products. Their knowledge is there to help everyone, from a parent buying a first DUPLO set to a seasoned collector looking for a rare model.

Steven Foster, the Centre Director at Trinity Leeds, is clearly chuffed about the new opening. He said:

“The new LEGO store is bigger and better than ever before with some incredible interactive elements that will allow creativity and imaginations to flourish. As the only LEGO store in West Yorkshire, it has already proved incredibly popular here at Trinity Leeds, and this new store will bring even more of what LEGO fans love.”

His excitement highlights just how important the store is, not just for the shopping centre, but for the whole of West Yorkshire, offering a unique destination for families and fans.

A little trip back in time

The enduring appeal of LEGO isn't an accident. It’s built on decades of dedication to a simple, brilliant idea. The LEGO Group’s official mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow through the power of play. It all started back in 1932 in the small town of Billund, Denmark. That's where a carpenter named Ole Kirk Kristiansen founded the company. He created the name ‘LEGO’ from the two Danish words “LEg GOdt,” which mean “Play Well.”

What makes it so special is the LEGO System in Play, the core principle that ensures all bricks, no matter when they were made, can connect. A brick from the 1960s will still fit perfectly with one made today. This commitment to quality and compatibility has made its products a staple in homes worldwide. Still a family-owned company with its headquarters in Billund, the brand has grown from a small workshop into a global phenomenon, with its iconic products now sold in over 120 countries. This new store in Leeds is another chapter in that amazing story, bringing the company's Danish heritage and philosophy of play to West Yorkshire.

What else is happening at Trinity Leeds?

The bigger LEGO store is just one part of an exciting wave of new arrivals at Trinity Leeds. The shopping centre, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in March 2023, continues to evolve. Other new names joining the lineup include popular shoe retailer schuh and trendy clothing store Footasylum. For those feeling a bit peckish after all that building, new food options like Jerk Junction will be available, while entertainment venue Lane7 will offer even more reasons to visit. The launch date of Thursday, 23rd April is certainly one to circle on the calendar for anyone who loves to play and build, proving that even after all these years, a simple plastic brick can still inspire a massive amount of creativity and excitement.
