Cliffe Castle

Went to see the touring ice age art exhibition which was excellent. In fact the whole visit was excellent as this museum is a real gem. First visit and we were most impressed. Informative, interesting and a wide ranging set of exhibitions. The surrounding park area was lovely also. Nice cafe and coffee. Not our last visit

What a gem to find! First of all, it has free admission. Second, it has free parking! Third, it is located in a lovely green vista with flowing fountains and blooming flowers. The only issue was getting here as traffic moved at a near non motion pace. But once we turned off the main road to make our way to the parking lot, it was as if we were in an entirely different world. The castle is actually a museum that features just about every subject imaginable. There is a room on how the earth was formed, one on space, taxidermy of a variety of species, life in old Keighley, tools and similar items over the centuries, rescued stained glass windows from buildings that no longer wanted them, recreated rooms filled with items from a past era, a grand piano that is played by a local who loves to practice on it. Need I go on? You name it....Cliffe Castle Museum probably has it. Placards give the history as well as the descriptions of most of the items on display. We were told that you couldn't get lost, but I can't agree. At one point it seemed like I went from room to room to room and the last one did not lead back to the original hallway as I'd been told. I wonder if they've ever lost someone in there? Once you've tired of wondering, you can wander up to the cafe on the way to the parking lot and get some refreshment. They had local made ice cream there!

What a revelation. A grand building full of interesting objects, art, furniture, historic tools used in local industries, all displayed in an easy to understand manor. Rarely have I been so impressed by an impromptu visit. A must see venue if you're in the area. It doesn't end there... walk a little further and enjoy the splendour of the conservatory and adjoining tropical plant house for refreshment. Well done to all those involved in maintaining the high standard of this gem of a place.

An impressive 'Tardis' of a museum, absolutely packed full of an amazing range of interesting exhibits over two floors. All credit to the local council for following the intended free for all approach, making this a very accessible treat for the eyes and the mind. A pleasant on-site cafe is a great addition, in the former summer house at rear. Exceeded expectations, brilliant.

Could easily spend a day here. So much to see in the house, extensive gardens on several levels, and lots of walk options. Things for children, in the house and outside. Rain not a problem. The cafe was ideal for lunch or afternoon tea with seating inside and outside.
