Botanical Watercolour - Mistletoe With Karen Green Is A One-day Watercolour Workshop On Saturday, 5th December 2026, 10am-4pm, At Jackson’s Attic Studio At Griffin Mill. Located In Thrupp, Near Stroud, In Gloucestershire, Griffin Mill Is An Atmospheric Converted Victorian Mill In The Heart Of The Stunning Cotswolds. All Abilities Welcome, Including Beginners. Working From The Mistletoe Plant, You Will Learn How To Compose, Draw And Paint From Observation Using Watercolour To Create A Botanical Painting That Reflects An Understanding Of The Subject Whilst Capturing The Beauty Of The Plant. Karen, A Botanical Artist, Will Ease You Into The Workshop With Some Playful Sketching Exercises Alongside Some Botany Exploration To Help Lead You Into Observational Drawing And Creating Interesting Compositions On The Page. With One-to-one Support And Class Demonstrations, You Will Experiment With Watercolour Techniques And Accurate Colour Mixing, Focusing On The Colour Green, Bright And Muted, And How To Tackle Painting White Using Botanical Greys. During The Session, You Will Familiarise Yourself With The Materials And Tools Needed For Botanical Art And The Techniques Used, Such As Glazing - Slowly Building Up Layers Of Paint To Create Luminosity And Depth. Recommended Equipment List Paper: Hot Pressed Watercolour Paper, Roughly A4 Or A3 Size, 300gsm. Bring Two Or Three Loose Pages Or A Sketchbook. Sketchbook Options: RK Burt Botanical Fat Pad Ultra Smooth Specialist Pad. Pegasus Art A4 Landscape Pad (not 300gsm). Langton A4 Watercolour Pad By Daler-Rowney, Hot Pressed Smooth. Large Sheets Of Hot-pressed Watercolour Paper Can Also Be Used And Cut Down To Size. Watercolour Paints: 5ml Tubes, Pans, Or A Basic Set. Recommended Ranges Include Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours Or The Student Quality Cotman Range. Suggested Colours Are Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Permanent Rose, Sap Green, Hooker’s Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber, Ultramarine Blue Or Cobalt Blue, And Payne’s Grey. You May Not Need All Of These Colours, So Please Bring What You Already Have Or Choose A Beginner’s Set Of Watercolours. She Paints With Intricate Detail, Retaining The Technical Accuracy Of The Plant But Placing Emphasis On The Aesthetics And Artistry. She Explores Themes Of Femininity, Loss, And Healing Through The Botany And Life Cycle Of Plants, Flower Language, And Their Use In Medicine, Folklore, And Religion. After Receiving A First Class Honours Degree At The Arts Institute In Bournemouth, Karen Went On To Work As A Primary School Teacher Before Leaving In 2011 To Focus On Her Art Career.
