Garlic chives (Allium tuberosum) produce flat, grass-like leaves and white, star-shaped flowers with a mild onion–garlic aroma. Supplied as three plug plants that grow to about 30 cm (12 in), this perennial suits pots, window boxes, borders and small gardens. Use the delicate leaves to flavour soups, omelettes and cheese dishes; the flowers attract pollinators. Easy to grow in sun or part shade, it offers high yield, long flowering season and low-maintenance care. Harvest from June to September for the best flavour.
