Product Description

Enjoy home-grown goodness with the Thompson and Morgan Fig Ficus Brown Turkey. This self-fertile fig variety yields abundant crops of delectable, sweet, juicy fruits, characterised by their deep red flesh encased in brown skin. Its attractive lobed foliage adds a touch of drama, whether fan-trained against a sun-drenched wall or thriving in a patio container.Fruit development typically spans a year, emerging in spring and ripening between August and September. A second crop often follows in late summer; protect these, and they'll mature the following summer. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot with moisture-retentive, fertile, well-drained soil that leans slightly alkaline. Enrich the planting hole with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Re-pot container-grown plants every couple of years.Water regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. Feeding needs are minimal; a spring mulch of well-rotted manure or compost at the plant's base suffices. In colder regions, overwinter container plants in a frost-free location to safeguard developing fruits and fruit-bearing shoot tips. Protect outdoor plants from severe weather by wrapping them in straw and hessian.Pruning is minimal in subsequent years; simply remove any damaged or misplaced shoots to maintain an open framework. Pinch prune new shoots back to 5 or 6 leaves in summer to promote fruit formation.Caution: Ingesting the foliage and sap can be harmful, potentially causing skin and eye irritation.Height: Reaching up to 3m.Spread: Spreading up to 4m.Position: Thrives in full sun.Supplied as a plant in a 9cm nursery pot.
