Ch. Saint Pierre, a 4th Growth estate located in the village of Beychevelle, produces this richly tannic wine with layers of dark fruits and oak spice. The blend is comprised of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Following around 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels, this wine is a good representation of Bordeaux at a reasonable price. Saint Pierre has an early history of fragmentation and re-unification, following years of family disputes. In 1982 the estate was finally acquired by Henri Martin, who invested lots of energy and funds in restoring the property and vineyards. The wine is a good choice for those who enjoy a full-bodied red wine with a long cellaring potential.
