Château Léoville Poyferré, a second growth from Saint-Julien, is one of the most recognised names in the region, crafting wines known for their suppleness and finesse. The Cuvelier family has owned the estate since the 1920s. In 1979, Didier Cuvelier became the first of his family to manage the estate and set about making numerous improvements. He initiated a 19-year replanting programme to increase plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon within the appellation, as well as bringing in consultant Michel Rolland in 1994 to modernise the cellar. The 2006 vintage is finely balanced with rounded fruit and sweet oak supported by well-managed tannins and lifted by focused acidity. This wine is a deep ruby in colour with a vibrant core of blackberry and cassis fruit.
