Welcome to Yorkshire

•When an artist leaves an audience wanting more, you know they’ve got something special. And that’s exactly why Amiri Harewood is coming back to Harrogate—by popular demand.
The award-winning young pianist, who wowed crowds at the Harrogate Music Festival, will take centre stage at the Old Swan Hotel on March 23, 2025, as part of the Harrogate International Sunday Series. If you're a fan of breathtaking piano music (or just fancy a classy Sunday morning out), this is one to mark in your calendar.

A Rising Star in the Classical Music Scene
At just 23, Amiri Harewood is already making waves in the classical world. Last year, he won the Dorothy Parkinson Memorial Award for Young British Artists, an honour given to the most promising young musicians in the UK.
Currently studying at the prestigious Royal College of Music on a full scholarship, Harewood has also joined YCAT (Young Classical Artists Trust)—an organisation that supports rising classical musicians as they launch their professional careers.
But he’s not just making a name for himself in the UK. With past performances at venues like Steinway Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Institut Français, and the Royal Albert Hall, his talent is already being recognised internationally.
What’s on the Programme?
For this Harrogate concert, Harewood has put together an exciting setlist featuring some of classical music’s biggest names:
🎵 Lera Auerbach – A contemporary composer known for her emotionally charged music.
🎵 Sergei Prokofiev & Dmitri Shostakovich – Two Russian giants of the 20th century, famous for their dramatic and powerful compositions.
🎵 Johann Sebastian Bach – One of the greatest composers of all time. Harewood says he has a special connection to Bach’s music, particularly the Partita he’ll be playing.
🎵 Johannes Brahms – The grand and expressive Piano Sonata No. 3 is a piece Harewood has wanted to perform for a long time.
In his own words:
“They are all works I love and feel connected to. I’ve wanted to work on the Brahms Piano Sonata No. 3 for a while, so I’m excited to share that. I would also say I have an affinity for Bach's music. I have loved performing this Partita, and I am excited to share it in Harrogate.”
A Sunday Morning of Coffee & Classical Music
This concert is part of the Harrogate International Sunday Series, a long-running tradition that has brought some of the world’s best musicians to the town for over 30 years.
According to Sharon Canavar, Chief Executive of Harrogate International Festivals:
“The Sunday Series concerts have been providing a platform to some of the most talented musicians of their generation for more than 30 years now. Amiri Harewood definitely fits into this category, and we are delighted to welcome him back to Harrogate. He was a deserving recipient of the Dorothy Parkinson Memorial Award last year and wowed the audience – I’ve no doubt he will do so again!”
And the setting couldn’t be more perfect. The Old Swan Hotel offers an intimate space where guests can enjoy a relaxed Sunday morning—complete with a warm cup of coffee and world-class piano music.
