Free Plant-Based Burgers in Leeds This June — Meet the Halfway Heroes

An uplifting climate-friendly campaign is landing in Leeds this June, offering hundreds of free plant-based burgers and a fresh perspective on how we can all help the planet, one meal at a time.

Halfway Heroes Come to Dortmund Square

On Monday 23rd June, the UK-based vegan charity Viva! will bring its Halfway Heroes tour to Dortmund Square in Leeds city centre. Between 11:00am and 2:30pm, the charity will be handing out 300 free plant-based burgers, giving locals a tasty introduction to just how delicious and satisfying climate-friendly eating can be.

This is more than just a free lunch. The Halfway Heroes campaign aims to show that swapping just half of our meals for plant-based options can have a huge positive impact on the environment — and that making this change doesn’t mean sacrificing flavour or enjoyment.

A Simple Idea with a Big Impact

Rachel, an environmental campaigner at Viva!, explains: “We’re here to share a solution — but in the end, it’s the food that says it best. We want to show the public that swapping just half their meals to plant-based options can have a massive impact on the planet. And we think giving out incredible burgers is a pretty good place to start.”

The tour combines light-hearted fun with an important message, bringing superhero costumes, playful signs, and some of the best vegan burgers around to towns and cities across the UK.

Leeds Could Lead the Way

According to Viva!, if everyone in Leeds went 50 per cent plant-based, it could cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 637 million kilograms — the equivalent of taking hundreds of thousands of flights off the map or saving millions of car journeys between Leeds and London.

Visitors to the event can expect more than a delicious bite to eat. Alongside free samples from top plant-based brands, the Halfway Heroes team will share easy ideas for making more climate-friendly food choices, without the guilt or pressure to change everything overnight.
