|A long-established name in British manufacturing has a fresh chapter ahead as private equity firm 4D Capital Partners LLP announces its acquisition of the Hepworth Clay business in a carve-out deal from Wavin Limited, part of Orbia Building & Infrastructure.
Proudly Made in Yorkshire
Hepworth Clay holds a special place in UK industry as the country’s only manufacturer of vitrified clay pipes and fittings used for vital drainage infrastructure. With roots firmly planted in Yorkshire and the East Midlands, the business operates across two key sites — Hazlehead in Yorkshire and Forest Works in the East Midlands — covering 550,000 square feet of manufacturing space on over 100 acres of land.

One of Hepworth Clay’s standout strengths is its access to its own raw material: the business’s quarries hold impressive clay reserves estimated at over 18 million tonnes, ensuring a secure supply for years to come.
Alongside its well-known drainage solutions, the company also produces a range of terracotta products used in constructing and ventilating domestic flue and chimney systems, supporting both new-build and heritage properties.
Backing a Heritage Brand
For 4D Capital Partners, this investment is more than a business deal; it’s a commitment to supporting British manufacturing and nurturing an iconic brand with a proud history.
Alex Silk, founder of 4D, shared his enthusiasm for the future: “We are delighted to have invested in Hepworth Clay and very proud to become the custodians of this heritage brand. There is an excellent team in place with some exceptionally talented people who share our passion for high-quality manufacturing. We look forward to working with them to realise the full potential of Hepworth Clay.”
A Team Effort
The acquisition was led by Alex Silk alongside Dan Newett, Daniel Hannappel and Dominic Wong, with support and guidance from a specialist advisory team including Quantuma (Debt Advisory and Bid Support), Shoosmiths (Legal), Dickson Minto (Property), K3 (Tax) and Ford Campbell Freedman (Tax).
A Bright Future for Yorkshire Industry
The deal marks a significant milestone for Yorkshire’s industrial sector, ensuring that Hepworth Clay’s legacy of quality and craftsmanship continues to serve the UK’s construction and infrastructure needs well into the future.
With new investment and leadership behind it, Hepworth Clay is poised to build on its strong foundations, supporting local jobs and manufacturing excellence right here in Yorkshire.
