This fantastic campaign is the perfect excuse to finally book a table at that one venue you've been meaning to try for ages. Or maybe it's a chance to go back to an old favourite and show it some love. Whether it's a catch-up with mates, a family meal, or just a treat for yourself this autumn, the Restaurant Week offers make it easy and affordable. These eateries are ready to showcase what makes them special, from their unique menus to their welcoming atmosphere. It's a celebration of all the amazing dining experiences available right on the doorstep for all residents.
Why does this campaign even happen?
It's not just about getting a cheap meal; there's a bigger picture. This whole initiative is designed to give the local hospitality industry a massive boost. Think about it - October can sometimes be a bit of a quiet patch for restaurants and cafes after the summer holidays. This event is cleverly timed to increase footfall, which is just a simple way of saying it gets more people walking through the doors and filling up tables. More customers mean more business, which is brilliant for everyone involved. It's a great way to attract new customers who might just become regulars after they've had a taste of the delicious food and drink on offer.
North Yorkshire Council's executive member for open to business, Cllr Mark Crane, who is the elected member for Brayton and Barlow, near Selby, explained the thinking behind it. He said:
"North Yorkshire is renowned for its excellent food and drink, and we want to showcase the best of what the Selby and Harrogate areas have to offer. The week of offers is held during what is normally a quieter time of the year to encourage footfall into our hospitality businesses and I would encourage the restaurants, cafes and tearooms from across the area to get involved."
The event is organised by Visit North Yorkshire, the council's dedicated destination marketing and management service. Their job is to shout about how great the region is, and this campaign is a perfect example of that. It's a proven success, with Selby and Harrogate having taken part before, and even Whitby joining in on the action earlier this year. It's all about putting the fantastic local eateries on the map.
What are the local eateries saying?
It's not just the organisers who are excited; the local business owners are right behind it too. They see it as a brilliant opportunity to band together and showcase the incredible quality and variety of the local dining scene. Graham Usher, the managing director of The Drovers Arms, a lovely restaurant and country pub in Skipwith, near Selby, is one of the many local leaders getting involved. He sees the value in this collective effort to highlight the region's culinary strengths.
He said: "There is such an amazing choice of restaurants and eateries in the local vicinity, and this is a great opportunity to bring them all together and showcase for a week to residents and visitors what is available. At The Drovers Arms, we will be showcasing the wonderful produce that is available to us locally with a great value fixed price menu for lunch and dinner." This focus on local produce is key. It means the menus are packed with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms and suppliers, which makes the food and drink taste even better. It's a win-win for both the diners and the local economy.
