Sheffield Children’s Hospital is glowing with a brand-new Moon and Stars display, bringing warmth and light to the city throughout March. The stunning display, organised by The Children’s Hospital Charity, celebrates Ramadan and has already raised over £20,000 to support the hospital’s vital work.

And this isn’t just about beautiful lights—it’s about community, diversity, and giving back.

A Night to Remember: The Big Light-Up Event

On Thursday, 6th March, supporters gathered to see the lights switched on for the first time. Among them were some familiar faces, including South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard and Sheffield Children’s Non-Executive Director, Fatima Khan-Shah. But the real star of the show? 14-year-old Aroob, who had the honour of turning on the lights.

The Moon and Stars display sits proudly on the Outpatients Department, overlooking Clarkson Street, and will shine every night until Sunday, 30th March.

More Than Just Lights – A Way to Give Back

The display isn’t just about creating a magical atmosphere—it’s a fundraising campaign. Similar to the charity’s Christmas snowflakes and Lunar New Year dragon, supporters can sponsor a tag on the display. The money raised helps Sheffield Children’s Hospital, one of just three specialist children’s hospitals in the UK, continue providing world-class care.

Speaking about the event, Tchad Western, Head of Strategic Partnerships at The Children’s Hospital Charity, said:

“Sheffield Children’s changes children’s lives, not just from across the country, but worldwide. The money raised through the moon and stars will help the charity to support Sheffield Children’s vital work.”

The charity has been running its popular Christmas snowflake display for 20 years, and the new Ramadan lights mark another important step in celebrating the diverse communities that Sheffield Children’s serves.

Why This Matters

For Fatima Khan-Shah, this display is deeply personal. She shared:

“Growing up in Sheffield, this means the world to me. I remember staring in awe at the vibrant decorations of other festivals, my heart filled with joy and longing, dreaming of a day when my own heritage and faith would be celebrated with that same warmth and positivity.”

Now, thanks to the charity’s efforts, that dream is a reality.

How You Can Get Involved

The Moon and Stars display is proof that small contributions can make a big difference. Businesses, community groups, and individuals have already pledged over £20,000, and there’s still time to sponsor a tag or donate to support the cause.
