Lovely old building, stayed here for one night. Friendly family staff on reception who sorted the missing batteries from the remote control. Breakfast was not included but the food on the varied evening menu looked really good. The room had a lovely view though the option of a low light would be good. Some people would get annoyed by the creaky floorboards throughout the property but for me this added to its charm. Has it's own private car park to the side. Very cosy & quirky pub but the ale I tried wasn't great but I would definitely stay here again.
First things first, the Steak Pie and chips is amazing. I first experienced this in August 2022, while recovering from a life threatening injury, the streak pie pulled me through. The Bar has plenty of atmosphere with the rooms being clean, comfortable and well appointed. We had a view down the Main Street toward the Black Bull. Breakfast is cooked to order so be patient as it is worth the wait. The Old White Lion is the go to for food and drink. Room 7 is said to be haunted, look up the story.
We did not stay here so no stars for the rooms. However, we did eat here and it was tremendously good value and quality. I had the steak and ale pie, with mash and garden peas. the pie is served in the pot and has a nice puff pastry topping. The filling was incredible. There were huge chunks of tender, flavoursome steak. (It made the old Pedigree chum adverts look like they were advertising mincemeat.) I cannot comment on the puddings as we were too full from our main courses to eat one. Very friendly staff, fantastic beers, kept well and served well.
Disappointed. This is my 3rd time here and the past meals had been great. Food was average tonight and left me feeling disappointed. Probably not going to return. Not only was the food average. There was a group of people who was allowed in the restaurant area who was not there to eat. Not only loud, but vaping. Didn’t stay for other drinks or dessert. Just wanted to leave.
We went for a meal on Tuesday night whilst staying in Haworth, the pub was lovely, the staff friendly, a very nice place. However I ordered a gluten free bhaji burger, and a few hours later was ill, so there was a fair amount of gluten present in the food despite me double checking with the staff it was gluten free. Being coeliac, sadly I know exactly what happens when I eat gluten. If you have allergies, take care if you eat here - if you have no allergies it's a lovely place.
