We booked in for a meal after travelling on the NY Moors Heritage Railway. Lovely atmosphere with a welcoming roaring log fire. Really friendly , attentive knowledgeable staff , fast efficient service. The venue is neither to noisy or to quiet ,great to be able to hold a conversation with people who wear hearing aids. The menu is short and sweet , which is always promising, and the food delivered, everyone enjoyed their choices. I had Chicken Schnitzel myself and the potato salad that came with it was on point as was the Jager Sauce. ( German for hunter Jah) The sea bass went down a treat ,only slight disappointment however it really could do with a crisped skin. But the flesh was perfect which is no mean feat. All desserts were well received. I had the afogato myself and I would have loved a Frangelico to go with it. But alas no Frangelico. Private parking which is useful when a guest has mobility issues. All in all the Black Swan is a perfect place for a multi generational family gathering. Absolutely value for money. Ticks all the boxes and we will definitely return. Worth going just for the funky beer recycling system in the gents. Inspired .
The Black Swan is a fantastic place to stay in Pickering! The location is great, right in the middle of the high street, with pretty much all the local attractions within walking distance. The staff were very friendly and service was great! We stayed in a twin room which was a good size and very cozy. It has a mini bar (water is free) which is handy and ensuite shower. The hot water/heating system is great and you can adjust the temperature easily and get it exactly how you want it. The only thing which took a little getting used to was the automatic lights in the bathroom- it doesn't register movement in the shower so if you take a little too long all the lights go out (probably telling me to get out!). Breakfast is delicious with lots of choice and was very tasty with generous portions. As it's quite small (and breakfast gets busy!), they do staggered arrivals at ten minute intervals- if you need one of the first slots due to an activity etc, I'd recommend emailing ahead as we found the early slots were the busiest. We had dinner there one night too and it was fantastic, really delicious and one of the best meals I've had- we went for the sea bass and the vegetarian curry and both were excellent!
A lovely small (ish) Hotel/Inn/Coaching house. The room was immaculate and very well designed - with much more than I expected - the fresh coffee bags were brilliant. The welcome from the owners was brilliant, very friendly and very helpful. ALL the staff were very lovely and friendly. Breakfast went over my expectations - as did the service at breakfast. The whole place is lovely inside and out - the area out the rear is just lovely. The only recommendation I can make to the owners is - keep doing what you are doing - you have a lovely place and lovely staff.
Great location, incredibly helpful owners and all the team. They define hospitality and customer service. Lovely rooms, gorgeous food and dining room. Just a lot of stairs, but for most people that wouldn't present any problem, and the owners did offer to move me to an easier to access room, they also helped with my luggage, so overall, exceptionally great stay.
Lovely old coaching house. Had a 2 night stay very recently, the place is immaculate and the hosts and staff were lovely. Had one meal there, sea bass it was awesome. We shall come back, would highly recommend to anyone considering a stay in Pickering and parking is easy too! Oh yes, very quirky and different gents toilet π€
