Outstanding gym that couldn't be more welcoming. I've been going to gyms for 10 years and always felt like I was just another member but Eddie and the guys couldn't be more welcoming here. I've been going for a few weeks, they all take the time to learn people's names, engage with you, support, spot, and chat. Proper community feel with top quality equipment 👌
What was a decent gym, has spiralled down out of control, over the last year or so and more so recently, since the change of ownership. The staff are great, but there’s now no maturity or expertise, which there once was. Signage still states to ask a member of staff for help if you need offloading with heavy weights. I’m not sure a 17 year old girl will be able to take a 50kg+ dumbbell from a shoulder press position. The distinct lack of staff presence also shows with the general cleanliness and maintenance/ upkeep of the gym, as well as supporting the more amateur clients. There’s broken sockets, dirt everywhere, holes in the walls, an absence of blue roll and toilet roll and let’s not ignore the barbell corner hinge, which has had the fastening nut completely removed from the bolt, for well over a week. This is particularly worrying when each piece of equipment should be visually and physically checked at the start of each day. As for the other users of the gym, it’s full of kids flexing, group hogging equipment and holding it for each other. There’s also a complete ignorance regarding gym etiquette! No one seems to be aware of manners, standing in the way, or taking plates from used equipment. I’ve just had someone move right in front of the smith machine, while I shoulder press my heaviest weight, on the last rep. She simply couldn’t hold off 5 seconds until I finished! Then when telling her about the situation, it’s responded to as though I’m completely wrong to do so. The gym changed ownership and we all expected some significant changes, in regards to the layout and equipment. Absolutely nothing has been done to address the complete lack of space and dangerous set up. Manoeuvring at one the gym is like a scene from mission impossible! You then need to make shapes when adding weights to most machines, putting strain on your back. The number of times I’ve banged chins on weight posts, sticking out all over the place and in all directions. There’s now a great vending machine, which offers well over priced items. Brilliant! One good thing to mention - new opening times are great. However, most of this additional time is unmanned and a gym with no open doors/ windows, that’s absent of air con, quickly becomes like a sauna. A great 2 for 1 offer, but in reality, the conditions are unsafe for heavy lifting in such heat/ humidity. So is it really worth opening later? I’m still undecided. I hope this review provides the new owners with some useful constructive criticism, which they can take on board, rather than prompting a call and argument. Had they welcomed themselves to the clients, when they took over ownership and asked the clients what they wanted/ needed, it would have been a far better transition. It’s hard to explain the gym now - it’s without direction, ownership and identity. 2 stars is probably too kind. Oh - and if you’re physically disabled, you may struggle to get in when there’s no staff present, which is increasingly often. Even I struggle to get in through the turn style, with my gym bag!
Working with Lola at 1079Fitness has been a truly positive experience. It's not just about the workouts; it's about her genuine investment in your progress. From our initial consultation, she took the time to understand my goals and limitations, crafting a plan that felt both challenging and achievable. What really sets Lola apart is her ability to motivate without being intimidating. She strikes that perfect balance between pushing you to your limits and offering encouragement when you need it most. You can tell she's passionate about fitness, and that enthusiasm is contagious. She explains exercises clearly, corrects your form with patience, and always has a few extra tips or insights to share. Beyond the physical results, I've noticed a real boost in my confidence. If you're looking for a trainer who's knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely cares about your success, Lola is an excellent choice.
Great gym. Best range of quality equipment I've seen in a gym. Friendly and helpful staff on hand to help with machines/exercises. Personal Trainers available. Great range of supplements. A gym by gym-goers for gym-goers. EDIT: So since I've posted the review, the gym is now under new ownership, which is both a good and a bad thing. I no longer buy supplements through the gym, as they don't do regular orders (I just order online). They have less choice in the supplements they stock now, as well as food/drink on offer. Personal Trainers are now more expensive since they're being charged more for rent. It isn't ventilated as well, and always smells really sweaty. But on the plus side, they've extended their opening hours, and still have a great range of equipment!
I joined this gym 6 years ago and it has and still is one of the best most inclusive gyms I've ever been to. With new ownership comes change, which people are not always keen on but I love the longer opening hours and have never had a problem gaining entry with the new system. The new management team are friendly and approachable and are always keen to listen to ideas and what the customers want.
