Residents at Bennett Court care home in Pontefract have introduced a touch of nostalgia and community spirit by opening The Evening Star Bar, a new on-site pub designed to bring people together. This vibrant space not only serves as a social hub for those living in the home but also welcomes families, friends, and local community members to share in the fun.

Railway Theme Chosen by Residents

The pub's theme was decided through a vote among the residents, with a railway motif coming out on top against a Wild West theme. This decision reflects the interests and passions of the residents, showcasing how they can influence their environment. The project emphasises the home’s commitment to creating a supportive atmosphere that encourages residents to engage in activities that resonate with their lives.

The Opening Celebration

The Evening Star Bar, named after a famous British steam train, celebrated its grand opening with a lively launch party. The event was attended by residents, their families, and guests from other nearby Exemplar Health Care homes, such as Willowbeck and Fairwinds. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as attendees gathered to explore the new space and enjoy various activities.

Unique Contributions from Residents

One resident, Tony, a dedicated trainspotter, played a significant role in the bar's railway theme by sharing his own train photography for display. This personal touch not only enriched the decor but also allowed Tony to celebrate his lifelong passion while contributing to the community feel of the pub.

The launch event featured an inclusive quiz tailored for people of all abilities.
