Great free gravel car park, probably about 10 spaces then a very short walk up to the castle, I was able to get a space at 11am on a Saturday morning but it did seem to get busy when I returned at 1. It’s a great free car park.
Amazing place I can't believe I've never been with it being so close to where I live and it's completely free, really interesting displays posted throughout.
Enjoyable visit. Good visitor centre and cafe. Views from castle walls. It was a clear day on my visit, you could see for miles. The dungeon tour was interesting, but don't expect gore!! More of a large holding cell, full of ancient graffiti. The castle has connections to the Magna Carta through John de Lacy. See posted photo.
Can't fault a free car park. I got there early and there were about four or so vehicles there. I spent a while at the castle on a midweek day and by the time I left it was much fuller, but still had 6 or 7 slots free. It is a short walk up to the castle. There are two disabled parking bays right outside the castle entrance. Opposite the car park are the foundation ruins of Kirkebi Anglo Saxon church. It's information board also has the text in braille. If you cross the road, you can also visit the unique church of All Saints.
In a good location to visit the castle and free. Unfortunately the surface is prone to being washed away. Being on a slope, channels form during wet weather.
