A church designed by GE Street in the 19th century with stained glass by Henry Holiday. The tower and the other architectural choices screams Street throughout. Definitely worth a visit. In the region there is another church by Street which worth seeing in Howsham. There was no sign of opening hours but I went on a Thursday morning with no problem.
Scenic location, the church tower forms part of the view from higher up the hill. There are some Commonwealth war graves, I always think it’s good to have a look at them to ensure the people are remembered
Love old churches and this one is worth a visit. I was going to visit it anyway but when I went it had the Christmas Tree Festival on, coinciding with the Bay's Victorian Weekend. It's an awesome and unique church built in the geometric Gothic style. The Norman font had been discovered in a field being used as a cattle trough! Quelle shock! Quelle horreur! Quelle philistines!! It is now in front of the altar and again being used today for baptisms. There is a sign at the door requesting mobile phones to be turned off, understandably. So I was rather surprised when a dog started barking. So looks like you can bring your dogs in, but switch your phones off, ha. Impressive, hefty latch and keyhole on entrance door. Tree Festival was an added bonus amongst the wonderful architectural details and the shimmering stained glass - always a sucker for stained glass!
One lovely church in a peaceful and beautiful village!
