Never again........we have been into The Bay Hotel several times a year for over 20 years, we will not return....... On New Years Eve four of us sat on a table in Wainwright's bar about 5.30pm, it was cold in there but we had a few drinks and enjoyed our evening as a family. At 10.20pm the barman came over to my partner and told me that we had to vacate the table by 10.30pm, so within 10 minutes.......as someone had just reserved our table. We couldn't believe that we had been sat there for about 5 hours and were now being told to leave within 10 minutes for someone else who had been drinking elsewhere, but now wanted our table On contacting the Bay Hotel their explanation was that they were guests and due to this could reserve a table. I totally understand the reserving concept, but 10 minutes is not reserving, it was a case of kicking us off our table for them, totally unacceptable!!!

Popped in for lunch after walking over from Ravenscar with family, amazing walk along the beach, just check the tide times! The service is great, but even better was the fun attitude of the staff. Considering they have to deal with us tourist's, they not only had a great sense of humour, but we're really good at making sure all our food arrived at the same time (we were sat outside in late October, so things can go cold quickly in the fresh air). I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay over, we walked back to our Airbnb in Ravenscar. The Bay Hotel gave us exactly what we needed for a great day out, quick & friendly service, good food and damn good beer to go with it.

Worth it for the fireplace & view of the sea alone (especially if you've been on a long walk beforehand). Good choice of well kept ale & a decent menu with specials. I had fish, chips & mushy peas with bread & butter. The chips were a tad pale & bland.

Dropped in here for a drink. Absolutely lovely place. Staff on where friendly and happy to chat. I didn't eat but what was being served looked good. The views over the bay where worth visiting for alone. The bar was very cosy and I'd happily spend an evening there. I'm planning to come back and stay overnight. Beware, the climb up the hill (or "bank" as the bar staff tell me) from the hotel is very steep. If you have mobility issues you will need a taxi. The rest of us get a workout. Very recommended

We walked from Whitby and stopped at the Bay Hotel for lunch — highly recommended. We only had a sandwich and chips, but it was well presented and tasty. Portion sizes across the menu are generous, and every dish we saw looked just as well put together. The food came out quickly, prices were reasonable, and the staff were genuinely friendly. A great spot to rest and refuel.
