Off a busy dial carriage way, behind a car sales garage into a very rough car park... Into an oasis in the city! Interesting information board describing the history. The steel henge is an interesting piece of art made from the old factory that used to be on site, and then there's a great walk around the island.

I had never heard of Steel Henge but spotted on Google Maps when I was deciding how to spend my day in Rotherham. I walked there from the Minster along the busy Sheffield Road-plenty of cars but not many people. The route took me through 2 underpasses which were a bit grim, but then I followed the sign which took me to a rough area behind a car dealership. The Henge itself is quite striking and beautiful in industrial steel. Some of the pieces are numbered but there did not seem to be any logical sequence to their display as far as I could see. There were benches to sit and watch the world go by and I could see that the path continued, however time restraints meant that I couldn’t explore that. NB I was surprised to I see that it has been built on a flood plain which could mean that access bus difficult at times.

Its a lovely space. Though built on a flood plain this little gem has been spoiled in recent years by first the vandalism where the recycled paths were set fire to and the increasing flood events don't give it chance recover year on year. We had our pastafarian wedding blessing there, it was a blast. Usually quiet if you want a quiet walk alone or with your dog. Four stars because its original beauty has never come back

Quite a nice little nature reserve, although it is on a flood plane, so might not be the best place to visit if the Rother is running high! The henge itself is built feom some old ingots that were left from the site's previous life as a steel works, so I understand the artistic value, even if it's not the most aesthetically pleasing artistic installation I've ever seen!

A total little gem in a small nature reserve. I wasn't sure what to expect, but thought it was enchanting in an industrial way. We saw a heron & apparently there are kingfishers along the river & possibly be aware of snakes (a couple of dog-walkers warned us of this). Do not follow Google maps, which will try & take you across the railway line.
