|A sparkling new stage adaptation of one of literature’s most cherished love stories is heading to Scarborough this summer. Pride and Prejudice will run at the Stephen Joseph Theatre from 3 to 26 July 2025, promising an elegant mix of romance, humour and drama in a lively new retelling.
A Fresh Take on a Timeless Classic
Jane Austen’s beloved novel gets a vibrant new treatment in this co-production between the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Octagon Bolton, Hull Truck Theatre, and Theatre by the Lake, in association with Theatr Clwyd.

This witty, music-filled adaptation, written by acclaimed playwright Kate Hamill, breathes new life into Austen’s tale of love, misunderstanding and second chances. Expect Regency parties, courtship rituals, swirling skirts, and sharp-tongued exchanges — all delivered with a sense of flair, fun, and emotional depth.
Meet the Cast
Taking on the iconic roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy are Rosa Hesmondhalgh and James Sheldon, bringing fresh energy to the story’s most memorable couple.
They are joined by a talented ensemble: Aamira Challenger, Jessica Ellis, Ben Fensome, Joanna Holden, Dyfrig Morris, Eve Pereira and Kiara Nicole Pillai, with Emily Kathryn as cover.
Directed by Lotte Wakeham
