This traditional Tuesday market couldn't be in a more picturesque setting, in a quaint village square with a backdrop of lovely Dales scenery. Although it's only small (I counted just eight stalls on my recent visit), the merchandise was varied and included household linens, clothing, flowers and plants, picture framing, and fresh fruit and veg. The traders were good-humoured and friendly. I particularly enjoyed looking at the cheeses. Had a nice little chat with the stallholder, who let me taste some of the Cheddar with ale and mustard before I bought it. Lovely flavour, and reasonably priced. I also bought a jar of lemon curd from a very nice lady at a stall where you could buy deli foods. There are plenty of independent small shops, cafes and pubs close to the market, and a car park with toilets just a short walk away, opposite the parish church.
This is a good location popular with visitors a village feel with a nice range of shops and access to cafes and pubs to eat. Parking on the square or just of the town centre 2.50 for two hours . The flower pot models were found scattered outside various locations and in the square adding a nice touch to the visit. Main line rail station linking to Carlisle & Lancaster / Preston .
We could live here it's so lovely. We completed a trail of Settle and enjoyed tasty sausage rolls and hot lattes at Ye Olde Naked Man Cafe! The square is full of life. And the town has the most well looked after train station! Quality Park for the kids and it was the season of flower pots! A joyous 2 day experience and the trail took a while which was a good thing! We got to see a lot and was educated a long the way.
A lovely busy proper market town. The flower pot festival was in full effect when we visited with multiple trails to explore. Public toilets were available in coop car park and were clean. Most car parks seem to be pay and display type £1.10 for the first hour.
This review is specifically about the Tuesday market, not Market Square in general, not Settle in general. The Tuesday market day. We were totally disappointed. It was a waste of time, and had we known, would have been able to catch the train to Ribblehead that day. There were some people selling clothes, hats, handbags, and the like. Nothing “local”, which we would have expected. Given the area Settle was in, I would have thought there would be something like sheep cheese. There was a fruit seller, but pineapples and bananas, grapes, etc are not local and I can go to the supermarket for that, too. Don’t waste your time.
