|Blind and partially sighted people living across Yorkshire and Humberside are invited to get active and try something new this summer at a free multi-sport taster event in Sheffield.
Sight Loss Councils, regional groups led by blind and partially sighted volunteers and funded by Thomas Pocklington Trust, are hosting a ‘Let’s Get Active’ day on Saturday 12 July at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Running from 10 am to 4 pm, the event is open to anyone living with sight loss who wants to discover accessible sports and social activities in a supportive environment.
Address: Ponds Forge, International Sports Centre, Sheaf St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BP, United Kingdom

Blind and partially sighted cricket team coaches and players getting ready to run a blind cricket taster session for blind and partially sighted people. Blind cricket will be available on the day.
Participants will have the chance to try a range of activities including ballroom dancing, visually impaired cricket, tennis, karate, climbing, yoga and more. The day is designed to demonstrate how small changes to the way sports are delivered can make a big difference to inclusivity, breaking down barriers and boosting confidence.
Experienced blind and partially sighted coaches and volunteers will lead the sessions, sharing their own lived experience of how sport has positively impacted their lives.
South Yorkshire Sight Loss Council member Lee Roberts, who will run a ballroom dancing workshop on the day, said:
“I recently lost my sight and found transitioning from being an active and healthy man and chef to learning new skills and ways of managing to be a real challenge. Discovering dance gave me such joy and a sense of accomplishment. This year we are bringing dance to Let’s Get Active in Sheffield. I’d love to show you just how enjoyable it is as you share learning a new skill.”
Bilaal Ali, also from South Yorkshire Sight Loss Council, added:
“Getting involved in sports has really improved my mental and physical health – I get to try new things and make friends at the same time. I think everyone should give a new sport or activity a go. You might even discover a new passion!”
Anyone blind or partially sighted living in Yorkshire and Humberside is welcome to attend, but booking is essential as places are limited. Children must be accompanied by parents or guardians.
