Stayed here on a Thursday evening 24 hour parking for £10 plus 30p admin fee great views empty car park five minute walk down to the harbour for bars and restaurants. tap to go didn’t work on the app had to go to the website but seem to work fine got a email receipt 24 hour toilets this time of year but not always be great if they had a shower in one of them other other than that great experience says you get free car park Wi-Fi when you use the app we couldn’t get onto it but had slight phone signal throughout the evening
Park on the left side, the green bit where u can pay by phone not tap2park. The white bit where the camera awaits u, may be u can avoid unless u pay coins and can follow the online instructions with good mobile network/signal. I don’t know how user friendly it is, but I avoided tap2park side. DIFFERENT PAY POINTS!!! Pay at the right location! Thanks for all the people who provided good insights
Lovely place, ruined by a sham of a car park. Paid for parking with cash and still received a fine days later for supposedly overrunning by 16 minutes. What they don’t make clear is that the ANPR cameras start timing you the second you drive into the car park — not when you actually park up or buy your ticket. So make sure you pay for extra time to cover finding a space and getting sorted, or you’ll end up fined like us. This setup feels deliberately designed to catch people out and make money from fines rather than parking fees. Why not issue a ticket on entry that you can scan on exit and pay for the time you’ve actually stayed? As much as we love Staithes, we won’t be visiting again while this disgrace of a car park is in operation. A real shame, as it leaves a bad taste after what should be a nice day out.
Offers a terrible service on purpose to make money off fines. The machines only take coins or payment via a website. There’s no signal in the car park and the offered WiFi doesn’t work. We finally found a machine which took cards - turns out that that was the council car park, which is very hard to tell apart. We only noticed on our return the small print on the sign about this. We were hit with a £60 fine. If they cared about their customers they’d invest some of the money they’re raking in from fines on better machines which take cards. But I suspect they prefer to carry on swindling their customers. Won’t be coming back.
My family of three planned to visit Staithes today to have lunch and shop, but decided not to based upon the very helpful and very unfortunate reviews of the car park's payment process. We chose to spend the day in lovely Whitby instead. I hope Staithes' local government officials rectify the issues with the car park so that other potential visitors are not similarly discouraged from visiting an otherwise pleasant village.
