Mill workers view

It’s hard to imagine the days before Barnsley Road, this would have been the daily view for workers and merchants travelling between Wakefield and Huddersfield. Such a busy route in fact that 2 public houses were located opposite each other just up the lane at Birdsedge. This elevated view would have been their first glimpse of their destination, a reassuring sight after such a journey. The now demolished farm Park Lodge just to the left would have been visible to the Bretton Hall estate of which it was historically linked. The only remaining link is this green corridor which constitutes the long distance view.

What a great long distance unchanged view, along an historic footpath.
