There's something truly special about reunions with old friends, wasn't there? For five school friends, Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) has been their special reunion destination for a quarter of a century.

While the exhibitions and parkland are undoubtedly captivating, YSP is so much more than fantastic art; it's a blank canvas for memories and new experiences. Read their emotional story and find out why YSP could be the perfect place to bring your own closest friendships together.

A friendship that stands the test of time

Imagine making friends aged four. Angela Jasper, Caroline Velvick, Emmi Checkley, Jane Walker, and Clare Townend did. The five girls met at Polam Hall School in Darlington, and have been the best of friends throughout childhood, university, careers and motherhood.

Life has taken them far and wide but no matter where they've moved they've always made time for each other. For the last 25 years, YSP has been the "magnet" that's brought them back together.

What do YSP have that others don't?

So why YSP? Clearly its location is a big draw (central enough to be accessible from the north, but far enough away to be a special treat). But it's not just convenience that keeps them coming back.

"We adore YSP, it's a magnet that attracts our little gang back year after year," says Caroline. "It's so inspiring – we love the galleries, the sculptures, the views and the shop is amazing. Then it's lunch at The Weston."

It's not just about catching up; it's a beloved tradition. Each visit is filled with art, laughter and meaningful conversations, and the joy of experiencing something new each year.

Art, food and familiar rituals

YSP's changing exhibitions mean each visit is different. This year the friends explored Bharti Kher's exhibition in the Underground Gallery, admired Liz West's colourful installations in The Chapel, and loved Sarah Kirby's YSP-inspired ceramics in the Visitor Centre. They also enjoyed the sculptures by Elisabeth Frink on display at The Weston.

Post-art lunch at The Weston Restaurant was next on the agenda, its delicious, locally sourced food and spectacular views a highlight. It's these simple pleasures; sitting down to eat together, wandering the parkland paths, or unveiling a new sculpture that makes their time together so special.

Could YSP be your perfect reunion destination?

Whether you're reuniting old school friends, celebrating a family milestone or simply catching up with closest friends, YSP has plenty to offer. You'll find world-class art, stunning parkland and many a secluded spot to sit and catch up.

"As we're together it's incredibly precious. We create more lovely memories to treasure."

Why not take a leaf out of Angela, Caroline, Emmi, Jane and Clare's book? YSP could be perfect place you reunite with friends or family. After all, it's not about coming together; it's about creating memories that last a lifetime.
