The Big Launch: Popeyes Comes to Gildersome with a Bang

When a restaurant opening creates a queue that wraps around the block, you know it's big. And that’s exactly what happened on Monday, 28th October, when Popeyes® UK opened its new drive-thru in Gildersome, West Yorkshire. Hundreds lined up, ready to experience the Louisiana-style chicken sandwich that’s sparked a worldwide frenzy online. The buzz was all about the unique New Orleans vibe and, of course, that famous sandwich with the crispy, Cajun-seasoned shatter-crunch.

But what makes this spot worth the wait? Popeyes brought a burst of energy to Gildersome with giveaways, merch, and plenty of tasty surprises.

New Orleans flavour with Yorkshire energy

Bringing its trademark southern hospitality, Popeyes treated the opening crowd to hundreds of free Chicken Sandwiches. Plus, for the lucky attendees, there was exclusive, limited-edition car-themed merchandise.

Locals like Vijay and Usman were first in line, having previously tried Popeyes at other UK locations, they couldn’t wait to get their hands on the sandwich. According to Vijay, “the chicken was really juicy and succulent” during his last visit, while Usman called the Spicy Chicken Sandwich “next level” – clearly, Popeyes fans are loyal!

If you couldn’t make it to the big opening day, Popeyes is keeping the good vibes rolling. From 29th October to 3rd November, one golden-wrapped Chicken Sandwich will appear daily for a lucky customer, earning them free sandwiches for a year. So, if you’re in the area, it might just be worth stopping by to try your luck.

And if you’re after a little something different for breakfast, Popeyes is launching its ‘Brekkie’ menu with British favourites like the Big Cajun Roll, Cajun Hash Browns, and even Nutella-topped buttermilk biscuits. Breakfast is served every morning from 8am until 11am, adding yet another reason to swing by!

More than just food: Creating local jobs and community vibes

This opening doesn’t just bring new flavours to Gildersome; it also brings more jobs to the area. Popeyes Gildersome has created over 100 jobs, making it the 61st Popeyes in the UK and the fifth in West Yorkshire. The restaurant offers plenty of seating, with 68 spots indoors and an additional 26 outside. There’s even a dedicated Drive-Thru lane and ‘Park & Serve’ bays for convenience.
