Had a meal here on Christmas Eve. The menu was amazing and reasonably priced. The vegetarian/vegan options were so good I didn't know which one to choose. I went with the Caramelised Fennel and Orange Galette. It was superb. Service was prompt and the atmosphere delightful. My partner had the Fish Pie and it was next level. Unfortunately we were so full that we couldn't fit in a desert - so we have decided we need to go back on Boxing day to have another meal so we can try all the other things that looked amazing. Really recommend this place. A real gem.

Came here for breakfast around 9am one day while in Whitby for a few days. Lovely looking very old building. The dining room was through the back, a sign said wait here to be seated. We stood there for a minute or so, the waitress saw us but didn’t approach us, instead she turned away. We stepped into the room and had to ask her if breakfast was being served. She said yes, very nonchalantly. We chose our own table, there was another couple at another table, so not busy. Waitress came over and asked if we wanted tea or coffee and gave us the menu. She then told us the chef was ‘on his way’ When our coffee and tea arrived, we saw the chef going into the kitchen, thankfully. We ordered a full English breakfast and kippers. The food was really nice. The setting was old and very quaint. We finished and wanted to pay, the waitress was at the bar, we decided to go over and pay there on the way out. She was on an iPad checking her emails, when I asked for the bill she didn’t even raise her head. Would not eat here again, due to the service, such a shame that the Yorkshire hospitality seems to have missed this establishment. There were plenty more places to eat where the staff actually welcomed you.

Had a lovely stay, the location is perfect for exploring Whitby, received a lovely warm welcome by the manager. The waiting staff were also polite and helpful. Our room was warm and cosy, couldn't fault it and had all that we needed. Dinner was excellent and a great choice of options for breakfast which was also delicious. Such a unique and charming place to stay in Whitby. Thank you.

We loved this place. The bar is tiny bit the dining area is a good size. We mainly used the bar and e joyed reading the ghost stories and the fact that Charles Dickins and Cpt. Cook stayed there. Staff were friendly and fun. Atmosphere fantastic.

Excellent food, chef clearly has ambition. The fish pie and rice pudding were outstanding. Good English breakfast and great local kippers.
