Had my eye on this little place on Goodramgate for a few years now, but have never quite managed to make the timing work when I’m in town. Ended up finding time this week on a wet Wednesday evening.. Small and unassuming from the front, this place is almost opposite the gap in Goodramgate where you can see the Cathedral, just around the corner from Caesar’s – it almost looks a bit like a takeaway from the front, as there are only a couple of tables and the bar – once you’re inside though, it is bright and sprawls to the rear, with a couple of areas of tables (tall and less tall, tables for all tastes) beyond the bar area. I was seated straight away without a reservation on what looked to be a relatively quiet evening, so that was good. Christmas decorations are present, for we approach the festive season. The menu itself is quite extensive and has a southern (US) theme – think fried chicken, burgers, BBQ etc. All very tempting and the breadth makes it difficult to choose. Although choose I did, proving that I can indeed be decisive when the occasion demands it. On this occasion I opted to try the fried chicken tenders and had a blooming onion on the side. A blooming onion is a marvellous thing – quite difficult to get right as you can burn the petals if you try to cook the middle too much. This one was very well done, just enough crispiness on the petals whilst retaining the juiciness of the onion within. I enjoyed my onion. The fried chicken was also good, served with fries, ‘slaw and a throaty little jug of delicious gravy. Such beautiful gravy. Memorable. The other burgers and sandwiches I spotted looked delicious; I will come back to try those. In a rare moment of self-awareness, I decided I should have a pudding here. Most auspicious, for they had key lime pie; after all, who can say no to key lime pie…. This pie was particularly good, very tart and with a thick and golden crumbed crust, topped with a generous whip of cream and served with ice-cream. It ticked all of the boxes. All of them. Overall this was an enjoyable meal and I would definitely visit here again - the service was good and the food tasty and homely. Worth a visit. Two paws up.

First time to York and just picked one over 4 stars restaurant from google maps. Best location in the core of the core old city center of York. Super nice vibe inside / outside. And nice music. I would say it’s really a big portion for me couldnt even finish. They have some magic while they cook the chicken. Unlike a normal American cuisine, they have really good chicken fillet, really juicy blended with nice spice. This was super tasty. And don’t forget to get a bottle of bar 😉

Pretty bang average meal- I had really looked forward to coming to this place while we were on holiday as the website had made it sound fantastic, but in reality it was just very run of the mill food- I had tacos and my husband had a Po boy sandwich. Nothing wrong with the food, just a bit average. We had the 2 for 1 cocktails but be careful as it has to be a cocktail with a logo by it to be in the offer. No one explained this until we ordered so we sort of felt peer pressured into having 2 each, and not being drinkers we struggled to finish them as they were so strong. Also service charge is added on so be prepared for that on top of your bill. (Where we’re from this isn’t really a thing so we were a bit shocked, and particularly as the service was also pretty average.)

Me and my wife visited here today for the first time ever as we went to York traveling from Durham for the day. We came by the restaurant and thought we would give it a try as the storefront looked appealing and I had saw a few reviews online with mostly positive but a few mixed For drinks, I got a banana and peanut butter milkshake, which was mainly banana and peanut butter topping (I would have liked it mixed in more together or more peanut butter) and my wife got a peach iced tea. For mains, I got the Fancy Hanks burger w/ fries and slaw and my wife got mac & cheese w/ a side of fries. For me, the fries were very salty and I think if they had less salt on them, they would’ve been delicious as they were quite crunchy. The burger patties were cooked really nicely, but unfortunately didn’t taste as if they had any sauce so it tasted a little bit disappointing. My wife stated that the mac & cheese was nice but needed longer to be cooked to be a little extra crispy. She gave it a 6/10. Overall, the place isn’t very big but they do have ample seating for I would say up to a party size of maybe 10 maximum. Unfortunately, I would give this a 2.5/5 ⭐️. It is not a bad restaurant at all, but for me, it was the middle of the road and there is better food places.

Always have a delicious meal when we come here. My partner is obsessed with the country fried steak. It’s super yummy. I had the mac and cheese on this occasion and it filled me up. They do such good comfort foods and great cocktails to go with
