On 3rd September 2026, historian and author Jack Jewers will release his new novel, Seething Lane, which reimagines Pepys as a detective. This date is particularly significant as it marks the 360th anniversary of the Great Fire of London in 1666, an event that Pepys famously chronicled in his diary.

In Seething Lane, Pepys takes on a new role as a sleuth, diving into the dark and dangerous world of 17th-century London. The story revolves around the murder of a libertine aristocrat, offering readers a thrilling mix of history and mystery. Jewers draws inspiration from his own childhood spent backstage at London’s oldest theatre on Drury Lane, where he was surrounded by the likes of Nell Gwyn and Aphra Benn, both prominent figures of the time.

Following the launch of his novel, Jewers will host two engaging events in Yorkshire on 9th and 10th September.
