This winter, a beloved Christmas tradition is returning to Yorkshire, promising to enchant both locals and visitors alike. The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway will once again host a magical experience featuring Charles Dickens' classic tale, A Christmas Carol. This immersive event will run on selected evenings throughout December, transforming the historic steam railway into a vibrant stage for one of literature’s most cherished stories.

Experience the Magic of Dickens

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Worth Valley, this unique production blends live theatre with the nostalgia of steam train travel. As audiences embark on their journey, they will be transported into the heart of Dickens’ Victorian world, joining characters like Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come.

This is not just a show to watch; it’s an experience that allows attendees to become part of the unfolding drama, making it much more engaging than a typical theatre performance.

Noel Hartley, the Marketing Manager at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, emphasised the significance of this event:

“A Christmas Carol has become one of the highlights of our festive programme because it brings together two wonderful traditions – the magic of live theatre and the nostalgia of travelling by steam train.”

He added that the story remains relevant, making it a fantastic way to kick off the Christmas season.

A Journey Through Time

The production immerses audiences into the rich narrative of redemption and generosity that Dickens is famous for. As the train travels along the tracks, the atmosphere is enhanced by the sounds of steam engines and the sights of beautifully preserved Victorian stations. This setting creates a magical ambiance that captures the essence of Christmas, making it an ideal outing for families, friends, and couples alike. The event has gained popularity over the years, drawing visitors from all corners of Yorkshire and beyond. Many are seeking a festive experience that offers something different from the usual Christmas activities. The combination of live performances and the charm of historic steam travel provides an unforgettable evening for all ages.
