|Shoppers in Leeds were treated to an extraordinary sight this week as a real-life “Spider-Man” was spotted cleaning the iconic glass dome at Trinity Leeds. This spectacular event was part of the build-up to the release of the new movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to hit UK cinemas on July 31.
Superhero Sighting
To celebrate the upcoming film, a specialist high-level window cleaning company called PLA decided to switch their usual uniforms for something a bit more exciting: a Spider-Man suit! On this special day, one of their team members, Mitchell Payne, 31, from Leeds, took on the role of the beloved superhero as he scaled the shopping centre’s impressive 40,000 sq ft glass roof. This fun stunt not only got shoppers' attention but also highlighted the hard work that goes into maintaining such a prominent structure in the city.

The glass dome at Trinity Leeds is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. It requires regular upkeep from a skilled team of cleaners who use rope-access techniques to reach every corner of the roof. Keeping the dome sparkling clean helps ensure that visitors enjoy a beautiful view of the shopping centre and the surrounding area. Mitchell's daring cleaning adventure allowed him to showcase his skills while dressed as Spider-Man, proving that perhaps there is some truth to Spider-Man's famous wall-climbing abilities. As he swung into action, shoppers below couldn't help but stop and stare, capturing the moment on their phones.
A Fun Celebration
Steven Foster, the Centre Director at Trinity Leeds, shared his thoughts on the unique event:
“Our glass dome is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, so seeing Spider-Man on it certainly stopped people in their tracks. It’s a great visual moment and a fun way to celebrate the release of the new Spider-Man film later this month.”
“Our window cleaning team do a great job year-round to keep the glass dome looking its brilliant best, but this week they excelled themselves, swinging into action for us like real-life superheroes.”
