in Doncaster in Harrogate in Saltaire in Sheffield in York in Yorkshire Dales

Here’s our guide to 10 trips that you could do this Christmas holiday with some incredible locations and events around Yorkshire.

RHS Harlow Carr

At the RHS Harlow Carr you can walk the grounds and see the beautiful gardens and then stop off at the world-famous Betty’s Tea Room to get a nice Christmas pudding. During the Christmas period you can also be mesmerised by the vibrant Glow! event.

Castle Howard

Visit the majestic Castle Howard near York. The stately home dates back to the 18th century and has featured in a number of film and television shows including Brideshead, Brideshead Revisited and recent Netflix show, Bridgerton.

During the festive period you can live out your own Christmas fairytale with Christmas in Narnia. This includes a giant 25-foot Christmas tree and the chance to witness a visit from Santa.

Walk the Three Peaks

The three peaks of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent are well worth a Christmas walk if you’re feeling brave enough. To take on all the peaks will take an exhausting 12 hours, but you can expect fantastic scenery and you will be more than ready for your Christmas dinner by the end.

Mother Shipton’s Cave

If you take the trip to Mother Shipton’s Cave between Saturday 20th November and Christmas Eve to experience Christmas at Mother Shipton’s, visit Santa and go for a Winter Woodland Walk.

The Deep!

There’s no better way to enjoy the festive season than by visiting The Deep, seeing the penguins playing in the snow and watching all the incredible fish at one of the UK’s largest aquariums.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Just a short trip from Doncaster is the Yorkshire Wildlife Park where you can enjoy the Winter Illuminations at the Light and Lantern Festival or simply visit during the daytime to see the extensive collection of animals, including the largest enclosure of polar bears in Europe.

National Science and Media Museum

The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford is perfect for a fun, informative and free day out. Galleries, exhibition spaces and the in-house cinema – playing a selection of Christmas films in IMAX – means the venue has something for everyone to enjoy over the holiday season.

Brontë Parsonage Museum

At the Brontë Parsonage Museum, step back in time with a visit to the beautiful, historic village of Haworth. Walk the cobbled streets and take in the mesmerising display of Christmas lights that light up the high street.

Visit the Home of Brontë siblings in which novels such as Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were written. You can also take a ride on a steam train through the picturesque setting of the Yorkshire dales.

A Christmas Market Tour

Nothing incites Christmas cheer like wrapping up warm and browsing the wonderful selection of food, gifts, ornaments, and decorations at a Christmas market. A variety of Christmas markets can be found across Yorkshire. At the Christmas markets in York and Sheffield you can enjoy a fireside mulled wine or cider in Thor’s tipi.

Whilst Malton, Knaresborough and Harrogate offer stalls from independent businesses as well as rides and attractions.

Salts Mill

At Salts Mill, visit the galleries and Saltaire exhibition or get your Christmas shopping done in the collection of independent shops, with a book shop, homeware shop and jewellery shops, you’ll be able to find great gifts for artistic people.
